At the meeting, Dr. Namaki, the Minister of Health and Medical Education, gave a lecture about health, especially non-communicable diseases and considered the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases to be one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Health. He described the design of the VIZIT system in Iran as an effective step in the planning of controlling non-communicable diseases.
Next, Dr. Larijani, Deputy Minister of Health and Head of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, stated that Iran was faced with various issues concerning health and that an appropriate operational plan needed be designed for each issue. He added, "Using the VIZIT system designed by researchers at the NCD Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, we can gain access to information on various diseases and health issues in our country."
He also said, "The information of this system is based on all studies conducted in Iran on non-communicable diseases, burden of diseases and different types of cancers, which are provided to provincial planners to be prioritized and planned according to the status of their area."
Then, Dr. Farshad Farzadfar, head of the NCD Research Center, introduced the system and its various capabilities, including the latest status of risk factors of NCDs in Iran separately sorted by province, age, gender and type of residence, mortality status from 1990 to 2015 for different causes of death for different age and sex groups in 31 Iranian provinces, incidence rate of cancer by age and sex in 31 Iranian provinces from 1990 to 2016, and other pieces of valuable information on different areas of health.
