National and subnational distribution and trend of hypercholesterolemia incidence, prevalence, and mean serum cholesterol level in different genders in Iran, 1990-2016
This study will provide valuable information to policymakers on hypercholesterolemia incidence and prevalence, a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, and mean serum cholesterol level over a 26-year long period in Iran. Some studies had previously reported statistics in this regard, however, none of them comprehensively investigated the age and time trend of hypercholesterolemia incidence and prevalence. This could definitely help stakeholders anticipating the magnitude of forthcoming problems and evaluating the previous plans for hypercholesterolemia control. Additionally, this study will use all available population data to make robust estimations, and it will report inter-gender and inter-province inequalities for better policy planning and detecting populations who require expeditious actions.
